The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a legal authority that offers a food license to all food business operators (FBO) in India. All the FBOs must follow all the rules and regulations of FSSAI for food quality control.

The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act) which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. It ensures the food products undergo quality checks thereby curtailing the food adulteration and sale of sub-standard products.

FSSAI Registration is different from the FSSAI License it is depending on Nature and size of Business. Every Food Business Person involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage distribution and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License.

It is a 14-digit registration or a license number that is printed on all the food packages. The 14 digit registration number gives details about the assembling state, producer’s permit. This registration procedure is aimed to create more accountability on the FBO to maintain the quality of the food products.

Type of FSSAI Registration :

  1. FSSAI Basic Registration : FBO’s having annual turnover of less than Rs. 12 Lacs must required basic FSSAI Registration. The applicant has to fill the FSSAI basic registration form – “A”.
  2. FSSAI State License : FBO’s having annual turnover is more than Rs. 12 Lacs must required State FSSAI License. The applicant has to fill the FSSAI state license Form – B.
  3. FSSAI Central License : FBOs having annual turnover is more than Rs. 20 Crore must obtain the FSSAI Central Licenses. The applicant has to fill the FSSAI Central License Form – B.

  • Identity and Address Proof of Business Operator (Director / Partner / Proprietor)
  • Photo of Food Business Operator
  • Business Proof Certificate
  • NOC from Municipal or Panchayat, Health NOC
  • Proof of Business Premises i.e. Rent Agreement, NOC from the owner of the rented premises, utility bills etc…
  • Food Safety Management System Plan
  • List of Food Products manufactured or Processed
  • Bank Account Information
  • Plan the Processing unit showing the dimensions and operation wise area allocation
  • Name and list of equipment and machinery
  • Authority Letter
  • Water Testing Report
  • Sources of Raw Material
  • Supporting Documents for Proof of turnover and transportation
